Ayurvedic management of Blepharospasm - A Case Report

Abstract

Blepharospasm is a focal dystonia in which the extraocular muscles contract repetitively, leading to excessive blinking and forced eyelid closure. Case:  A 60-year-old male patient, k/c/o type 2 DM- (since 25 years under insulin administration), a diagnosed case of blepharospasm for 4 years presented to our OPD, Dpt. Of Salakyatantra, GAVC TPRA for ayurvedic management. Intervention: The patient underwent ayurvedic management consisting of oral medicine dhanadanayanadi Kashaya, shodhana kriyas including vamana and thakradhara and locally given netra seka, netra pichu and netra tharnpana. Result: Assessment showed improved involuntary eyelid movements and reduced facial muscular spasms on lids. Conclusion: Results indicate that ayurvedic management is safe and effective in reducing blepharospasm symptoms by improving the patient's quality of life.
