Data sharing policy
Research Data Sharing and Data Availability Policy
The Journal of Ayurveda and Holistic Medicine (JAHM) supports transparency, reproducibility, and responsible sharing of research data. The journal encourages authors to make the data underlying their published findings available to the research community whenever ethically, legally, and practically possible.
Data sharing must comply with applicable requirements concerning research ethics, informed consent, participant privacy and confidentiality, data protection, intellectual property, institutional policies, and applicable laws and regulations.
Purpose
JAHM promotes responsible research-data sharing to:
-
Enhance transparency and reproducibility of research.
-
Facilitate verification and validation of published findings.
-
Enable appropriate reuse and secondary analysis of research data.
-
Support the advancement of scientific and scholarly knowledge.
-
Strengthen the integrity and credibility of the published research record.
Data Availability Statement
All original research articles should include a Data Availability Statement describing whether and how the data supporting the findings of the study can be accessed.
The statement should specify, as applicable:
-
The name of the repository and a persistent identifier or link where the data are publicly available.
-
Whether data are included within the article or its supplementary files.
-
Whether data are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request.
-
Any ethical, legal, privacy, confidentiality, contractual, intellectual-property, or other legitimate restrictions on data access.
-
Where data sharing is not applicable, the reason should be stated.
Data Sharing
Authors are encouraged to deposit research data underlying their findings in an appropriate recognized and sustainable repository whenever possible.
JAHM is committed to the long-term preservation and accessibility of its published scholarly content. The journal maintains regular backups of its digital content and utilizes appropriate digital repositories, indexing platforms, and preservation services, as applicable, to support continued access and long-term availability of published articles.
Where appropriate, authors are also encouraged to share materials necessary to understand or reproduce the research, including:
-
De-identified or anonymized datasets
-
Study protocols
-
Statistical analysis plans
-
Analytical or statistical code
-
Data dictionaries and relevant metadata
-
Other materials necessary to reproduce or verify the reported analyses
Where repository deposition is not appropriate or feasible, relevant data may be provided as supplementary material or made available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request, subject to applicable restrictions.
Human Participant and Clinical Data
Authors must not publicly disclose identifiable or potentially re-identifiable participant information without appropriate consent and lawful justification.
Clinical and human-participant data must be shared only when consistent with:
-
The informed consent obtained from participants.
-
Approval and conditions imposed by the relevant Ethics Committee/Institutional Review Board.
-
Applicable privacy and data-protection requirements.
-
Institutional and legal requirements governing access to the data.
Where individual-level data are shared, appropriate de-identification or anonymization measures must be applied.
If ethical, legal, privacy, or consent restrictions prevent public sharing, authors should clearly state these restrictions in the Data Availability Statement and, where possible, describe a controlled or reasonable process through which qualified researchers may request access.
Traditional Knowledge and Sensitive Data
Research involving traditional knowledge, Indigenous or community knowledge, culturally sensitive information, or other data subject to community, institutional, intellectual-property, or access restrictions should be shared responsibly and only where sharing is consistent with applicable ethical requirements, permissions, agreements, and legal obligations.
Authors should clearly disclose relevant restrictions on access in the Data Availability Statement.
Supplementary Material
Authors may submit datasets, protocols, questionnaires, reporting checklists, statistical outputs, and other relevant research materials as supplementary files, subject to the journal's editorial and ethical requirements.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that supplementary materials do not contain confidential, identifiable, copyrighted, or otherwise restricted information that they are not authorized to publish.
Data Integrity and Editorial Access
Authors are responsible for the accuracy, completeness, authenticity, and integrity of the data supporting their manuscript.
During editorial assessment, peer review, or investigation of a research-integrity concern, JAHM may request access to relevant underlying data, documentation, or analytical materials where reasonably necessary to verify the reported findings.
Failure to provide requested supporting data without a reasonable explanation may affect editorial decisions or result in further action in accordance with the journal's research-integrity and publication-ethics policies.
Data Citation
Where research datasets are deposited in a repository and assigned a persistent identifier, authors should appropriately cite the dataset in the manuscript and provide sufficient information to enable readers to locate and access it.
Research data generated by others should be appropriately acknowledged and cited in accordance with applicable licensing and attribution requirements.
Examples of Data Availability Statements
Authors may use one of the following formats, as appropriate:
Publicly available data:
“The data supporting the findings of this study are available in [repository name] at [DOI/persistent identifier].”
Data included with the article:
“The data supporting the findings of this study are available within the article and its supplementary materials.”
Available on reasonable request:
“The data supporting the findings of this study are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request.”
Restricted data:
“The data are not publicly available due to participant privacy, confidentiality, ethical, or legal restrictions. Access may be considered upon reasonable request and subject to applicable approvals.”
Data sharing not applicable:
“Data sharing is not applicable to this article because no new datasets were generated or analysed during the study.”
