Review of Siddhasara Samhita of Ravigupta- An essential Ayurveda text

Among our various literary treasures, there are many important books and one such which is in reprint publication - Siddhasara Samhita - Si.Sa. is a rich resourceful text of traditional Indian Medical Science; A classical work on Ayurveda dealing with almost every aspect. According to the available evidence this important text written around 7-8th century AD. Acharya Ravigupta the author’s contribution to Ayurvedic literature is the concise arrangement of the traditional knowledge into 31 chapters, each dealing with varied subject – basics, disease-treatment, lastly annexed with Nighantu. As the author felt that it is not possible to cross the ocean like Ayurvedic literature by a mediocre student, he writes by incorporating the salient features of Ashtanga Ayurveda for easy understanding by everybody.
Aim of this study is to know more about and from this text and reveal its distinct information. Material-Method: The data source for this literary review procured from Sanskrit text, Hindi and English translated version and online resources. Result: Analysis reveals Ravigupta’s text has significant influence along with contemporary texts, a gateway to other Ayurveda literature, which is to be studied - consulted and apply of essence content for better. This literary review paper insight of important contents and systemic elaboration of Siddhasara Samhita – an essential text. It furthers the scope of study to critically analyse and explore the forgotten treasure in it, Si.Sa. a possible link between prime texts (Brihat-trayi and Laghu-trayi) back into practical applicability.
